Privacy
The short version: your games are saved in your own browser, and as things stand nothing about them is sent to us. Optional accounts are planned, and signing in would be the only thing that changes that. Last updated September 2026.
What is stored, and where
Interlude keeps your progress in your browser's local storage — a space on your own device that this site can read and write, and that other sites cannot. As the site works today, nothing in it is transmitted to a server. There is no database with your results in it, because there is no account system yet and nothing to attach them to.
What is kept there:
- Games in progress, so closing a tab mid-puzzle does not lose it.
- A log of finished games — which puzzle, whether you solved it, how long it took. Your streak, badges and per-game statistics are all worked out from this log rather than stored separately.
- A random identifier generated on your first visit. It is a string of digits with no connection to you, your device or anything else, and it exists so a future version of the site can move your history to an account if you ever choose to make one.
- Small preferences, like whether you have dismissed a prompt.
You can erase all of it at any time by clearing site data for interlude.day in your browser settings. That deletes your streak and history permanently — there is currently no copy anywhere else to restore from.
One consequence worth knowing: because this data lives on the device, it does not follow you between your phone and your laptop, and Safari deletes it automatically after seven days without a visit. Adding the site to your home screen exempts it from that deletion.
Measurement
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It was chosen specifically because of what it does not do: it sets no cookies, does not fingerprint your device, and does not build a profile of you or follow you to other sites. It reports aggregate counts — how many people opened a page, roughly where in the world, which browser — and nothing that identifies an individual.
This is why you are not being asked to accept anything. A consent banner exists to cover tracking, and there is none here to cover.
What accounts will change
Everything above describes the site as it works now. Optional accounts are planned, and they exist to solve a real problem: a streak kept only on one device vanishes when you pick up your phone instead of your laptop, and browsers delete this kind of storage on their own. Accounts are also what make leaderboards possible, since comparing results requires somewhere to compare them.
So it is worth being plain rather than discovering it in a future revision: if you create an account, your results, streak and badges will be stored on a server rather than only on your device. That is the point of having one.
The commitment that does not change: nothing about your play leaves your device unless you sign in. Playing anonymously will stay possible and stay the default, and choosing not to have an account will never mean a worse game — only a streak that lives on one device.
When that ships, this page will be rewritten to describe it properly, with the date at the top updated. None of it is built yet.
Advertising
Interlude does not currently display ads. When it does, they will be served by Google AdSense, and this section will apply:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this and other sites.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a third party's use of cookies at aboutads.info.
- Visitors in the UK, EEA and Switzerland will be shown a consent choice before any personalised advertising cookie is set, through Google's certified consent management platform.
Ads will never be placed inside the play area, and no ad will interrupt a game in progress.
What we do not do
- No accounts at present, so no passwords and no email addresses are collected. Optional accounts are planned so a streak can follow you between devices; if that changes what is collected, this page changes with it and the date at the top will say so.
- Your game history is never sold, and it is never passed to advertisers. That holds whether it is on your device or, later, in an account.
- No tracking pixels, no social media embeds, no third-party analytics scripts.
- Nothing is knowingly collected from children under 13, and there is nothing here that could be, since no personal information is requested at any point.
Hosting
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. As with any website, Cloudflare processes the network requests needed to deliver pages to you, which involves your IP address. That is infrastructure rather than a choice we make about your data, and Cloudflare's handling of it is covered by their own privacy policy.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the date at the top will change with it. Given that the answer today is "almost nothing", any change is likely to be about advertising rather than about your game history.
